 At this time when there are much more important issues going on in our lives — concern over our health, our jobs, our families and neighbors — I want to take a moment to let you know that I am taking a step back from in-person campaign events and committed to following the recommendations by our President and Governor.

This is not a decision I have made lightly. I have studied the recommendations provided by health officials and have concluded that the one thing we can all do right now is to stop meeting in large groups because these meetings would likely accelerate the spread of coronavirus.

Let me assure you that our campaign is very much alive. I am sure you will notice other candidates ignoring the requests made by our President, his task force and our state leaders. I am committed to putting you and our communities’ safety first above all else. I would encourage all candidates to do the same.

We will continue talking directly with voters online and on the phone. I am working with my team today to increase our use of technology — perhaps including live video and tele-town halls — so that I am able to continue to listen and learn about your concerns.

I will continue to monitor the situation closely and will let you know when we are able to resume hosting in-person events. Until then, I know it’s important for all of us to focus on our families and those we love.
